Still no quarterback revelations
John Shinn's OU Notepad

The Norman Transcript

Transcript Sports Writer

Oklahoma started its regular schedule Monday with classes beginning at 3:30 p.m. One thing stayed the same, though. Questions about OU’s quarterback won’t go away until either Paul Thompson or Rhett Bomar is named the starter.

Although, Sooner coach Bob Stoops wasn’t going to make the same mistake Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy made over the weekend.

Gundy piqued the interest of reporters by saying OSU’s quarterback competition between Donovan Woods and Bobby Reid had taken an interesting twist. But refused to elaborate Saturday. He then backed away from the statement Sunday.

“There were no new revelations,” Stoops joked after Monday’s practice. “Yeah, I just heard about it on the way into practice.”

Offensive coordinator Chuck Long didn’t have an revelations either. He did say Thompson and Bomar both looked like they had tired arms last week, but having Sunday off appeared to help them.

“Both were really sharp today and their arms came back,” Long said. “Both had been throwing a lot and they were a little arm weary.”

Long wouldn’t give any insight on whether he was leaning toward Thompson and Bomar. He reiterated that a decision should be made by Thursday or Friday.

Practice guests

Two college football analysts were on hand for Monday’s practice. ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit and ABC’s Aaron Taylor both watched most of the workout at the Everest Indoor Facility.

Herbstreit did an interview with Stoops earlier the day that will run on ESPN’s “SportCenter”. Portions will also be used when ESPN features Oklahoma as part of its state-by-state preview.

Wilson on Biletnikoff list

Wide receiver Travis Wilson is one of 31 players listed on the preseason watch for the Fred Biletnikoff Award, which is presented annually to the top receiver in college football.
