Defense has to run

The Norman Transcript

Oklahoma’s defensive players gradually filed into the Red Room Thursday with an extra layer of sweat.

“It was a bad practice,” middle linebacker Ryan Reynolds said. “A lot of people weren’t giving 100-percent effort.”

Anyone who was asked said the morning workout was not up to par. Defensive coaches weren’t available afterward. But players provided apt descriptions.

“We had too many mistakes today. Way too many for the end of camp,” defensive tackle Gerald McCoy said. “We play in nine days, a real actual game that counts.”

Two practices are slated for today. They will end preseason workouts.

School begins and OU enters its regular game-week schedule Monday.

Cooper on list

OU senior Jon Cooper has been named to the preseason watch list for the Rimington Award, which is presented annually to the top center in college football.

Cooper has been a mainstay in the Sooner offensive line since his freshman season, starting 29 of 35 games over his career.
