The names of three people — including two student athletes — injured Sunday in an altercation outside a private party at 1309 24th Avenue S.W.  have been released by Norman police.

The two people who sustained apparent knife wounds were Frank Alexander and Ray Willis, both 18, of Norman. The woman who reportedly was struck by a vehicle is Rachel Taylor, 19, of Norman. Alexander and Willis are both OU student athletes.

Alexander, a redshirt freshman defensive end on the OU football team, was treated and released Sunday from Norman Regional Hospital. The OU student newspaper reported Willis, a freshman OU basketball player, was hospitalized, but the report has not been confirmed by police or hospital officials.

An Oklahoma City man, Terrance McCabe, 27, was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, but police wouldn’t say if his arrest was connected to the incident.

Taylor, the woman struck by a car, was treated and released.

The case is still under investigation by the Norman Police Criminal Investigations Division.

The altercation occurred after a number of people tried unsuccessfully to crash a private party at the location and attacked invited guests after being denied entry, police said. Calls to the police department reported subjects fighting with knives, guns and tire irons. Evidence at the location was consistent with reports of shots being fired and people shot and/or stabbed.

While police were at 1309 SW 24th, calls came to police that two stabbing victims had arrived at Norman Regional Hospital, via a privately owned vehicle. Both stabbing victim reportedly were in stable condition, but required surgery as a result of their injuries. Anyone with information about this crime is encouraged to call the Norman Police Department at 321-1444 or Crime Stoppers at 366-7867.

“There was an incident where a couple of our athletes, overall, were assaulted,” said OU head football coach Bob Stoops. “Outside of that, I’m not going to say anything because there’s an ongoing investigation. Until I know more I won’t confirm or not confirm anything.”

dent. The investigation is ongoing.

OU did release statements from president David Boren, athletic director Joe Castiglione, Stoops and basketball coach Jeff Capel Monday night concerning the incident.

“We are most concerned about the recovery of those who were injured,” Castiglione said. “Our desire is to assist law enforcement authorities in their investigation. While the details are still emerging, indications are that those who were injured were victims of assault.”

Alexander, a redshirt freshman from Baton Rouge, La., is currently listed as a second-team defensive end on the Sooners’ depth chart. He had one tackle against Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Stoops said his status for Saturday’s game against Cincinnati has not been determined.
