Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops has spent considerable time informing his team about OU’s history with Miami.
“We have a good history with a lot of great games with Miami and it’s a program we have great respect for,” the coach said Tuesday at his weekly press conference.
Several players said the Sooner coach spent some time Monday making sure they knew about OU’s history with the Hurricanes.
OU and Miami have met five times. The Sooner beat Miami 24-20 in 1973 and 20-17 in 1975.
The last three meetings are the ones OU fans can’t seem to forget. OU went 33-3 from 1985-87 with all three losses coming to the Hurricanes. OU and Miami were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the country in the last two games.
There’s some players who weren’t even born before the last meeting on Jan. 1, 1988. Any who were alive were still in diapers.
“I have learned that before my years of playing it was a great game,” safety Nic Harris said. “There is a lot of tradition and history behind it and it is going to be a great game Saturday.”
