PURCELL — Stanley Brown took care of the offense, everybody had a hand in the defense, and Purcell got off to a promising start in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs Friday night.

The 10-1 Dragons blanked Elgin 21-0 to move into the Class 3A quarterfinals against Sequoyah-Claremore, a 35-0 winner over Hugo Friday, next weekend.

Brown rushed 12 times for 79 yards and caught two passes for 77 more, 49 of which came on a touchdown throw from Hunter Marcum. Brown also scored on an 11-yard run, with Cassidy Nicholson adding the third Purcell score on a 2-yard run.

Elgin, whose season ended at 4-7, had two 1,000-yard rushers coming in, but couldn’t get anything going against the Dragons.

“Nothing’s as good as giving up zero points,” Purcell coach Mike Wilson said. “And that’s a pretty good offensive football team.”
