NORMAN — After a rough start to the season, Oklahoma continued its winning ways Friday, defeating Illinois State 11-6 at the Littlewood Classic in Phoenix, Ariz. in the first game of the day before meeting Arizona State in the late game.
The seventh-ranked Sooners jumped on top early, opening up an eight-run lead in the third inning. But Illinois State answered back with a big inning of its own to cut the lead to two runs after the inning. But the Sooners battled back to take control of the game and keep Illinois State off the board after that.
Brittany Williams led the offensive barrage for OU, blasting a three-run homer in the sixth inning to lock up the win. It was one of three Sooner home runs, with a three-run homer from Shelby Pendley and a solo shot from Georgia Casey contributing.
Oklahoma continues play in the tournament today, with contests against SIU-Edwardsville and third-ranked Washington today.
