Prep sports stuck on hold

NORMAN — The prep spring sports seasons are going to have to wait another couple of days to finally get started after Norman Public Schools chose Monday to close school throughout the district for a second straight day.

Among other things, that means the soccer season is on hold and Norman North will not be opening its season at Edmond Santa Fe tonight, nor will Norman High be on the road at Mustang.

It also means North slow-pitch softball won’t be at Westmoore tonight, and if the NHS and North girls golf teams were hoping to play a cold-weather round at the Carl Albert Invitational, that won’t be happening today either.

After today, calmer and warmer weather is supposed to settle into the area, allowing the soccer, softball and baseball seasons to get started and the track and field season to resume in the form of the Gregg Byram Classic, hosted by Norman High, which gets started at 11 a.m. Friday.

Of course, where NHS and North are concerned, the spring sports will be going up against one remaining winter sport, basketball, as both the North boys and girls and the NHS boys remain alive in the Class 6A area brackets.
