North girls get shot at the title

NORMAN — Norman North is onto the championship.

The Timberwolves are headed to the Tournament of Champions title game after defeating Tulsa East Central 57-35 in the semifinals of the invitational tournament on Friday.

Playing against the intense pressure Tulsa East Central brought, the Timberwolves executed their press break and wore down their opponents.

Bri Kuestersteffen led the way with 19 points, but the Timberwolves also got 17 points from Haley Woodard in another balanced team effort.

“We played the best we’ve played all year,” coach Jeff Blough said. “We executed really well against their pressure. Not too many people can empty the bench on Tulsa East Central.”

The Timberwolves will face off in the title game at 7 p.m. today against Class 3A’s No. 1 Adair, giving them a chance to win the tournament in their first trip to the prestigious tournament.

“It’s a blessing just to be invited, and to make the championship game against such great competition is huge for our team,” Blough said. “It’s going to be a tough game and a different style than we faced today.”

Collinsville 58, Norman High girls 47: Norman High fell in the semifinals of the Bartlesville tournament on Friday, losing 58-47 to Collinsville in a hard-fought game.

The Tigers still have a chance to finish in third place at the tournament and will face Tulsa Memorial at 1:30 p.m. today.
