NORMAN — After scoring a single run in their previous 14 innings, coach Patty Gasso’s 22nd-ranked Oklahoma softball team came up with a much better result Tuesday evening at Marita Hynes Field.
Behind long balls from both Leslie Miller and Shelby Pendley, a trio of pitchers — one of which was also Pendley, making just her second appearance of the season inside the circle — the Sooners came away with an 8-0 victory over Bradley.
Pendley smacked a solo home run to begin the third inning and a few batters later, Miller smacked a three-run homer to give the Sooners a 6-0 lead and complete control of the game.
The long balls were Miller’s third of the season and Pendley’s eighth.
Pendley was also a part of the Sooners’ pitching effort, working 12⁄3 perfect innings (and keeping her earned run average locked down at 0.00). Georgia Casey actually came into the circle to pitch on both sides of Pendley’s appearance.
It was Kelsey Stevens who started the game and pitched the first three innings, yielding three hits, yet no walks while striking out five.
Altogether, the Sooners turned in a three-headed, four-hit shutout.
OU only delivered seven hits off Bradley starter Madeline Lynch-Crumrie, but made them count for six earned runs and, thanks to three Bradley errors, two unearned runs.
The Sooners moved to 19-8 and Bradley fell to 10-16.
OU will get three days off before a two-game set with LSU, also at Marita Hynes Field.
The Tigers take on the Sooners at 2 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.
