OKLAHOMA CITY — Norman North’s boys golf team took a step forward, while Norman High continued to get strong play from No. 1 player Tanner Howe.
Playing the 36-hole Putnam City North Invitational on a very windy Monday at Quail Creek Golf and Country Club, one of Oklahoma City’s most historic courses, the Timberwolves and Tigers both struggled to break free of the pack.
North, sending two teams, finished third and fifth in the 11-school, 13-team event, while the Tigers finished seventh.
The most interesting thing about the day may have been how close the T-Wolves “A” and “B” teams finished to one another.
The “A” team, ld by Thomas Johnson’s (78-77) 156 and Thomas Ludwig’s (74-83) 157 carded a 656 total, while the “B” team, led by Ty Howell’s (77-83) 160 finished in 656.
Howe led the Tigers with rounds of 78 and 80. Elliott Greenlee finished at (86-83) 169 for the Tigers. Hunter Smith shot (89-84) 173.
North was a distant third to both Edmond Santa Fe (295 312-608) and Edmond Memorial (313 307-620).
All four rounds from the Edmond schools were better than every round from every other school.
