John Nobles tourney tips-off today

MOORE — The Moore boys and girls basketball teams will host the annual John Nobles Basketball tournament this week at Moore High School. Action starts today.

“In the John Noble Tournament this week I just want to see improvement in offensive execution and continued defensive pressure from start to finish,” MHS boys coach Aaron Howell Howell said. “The boys have only lost one game this year by more than 7 points and if we improve on the previous mentioned, we will finish strong.”

In the boys bracket, No. 17 Southmoore (6-5) and Tahlequah start the tournament t 11:30 a.m. MHS and No. 19 Lawton (8-5) take the floor at 2:30 p.m. Redemption Christian Academy (TX.) and Ponca City face-off at 5:30 p.m. while Flower Mound (Tx.) and Northwest Classen are in the night cap at 8:30 p.m.

On the girls side, Lawton and No. 5 Choctaw have the first game of the day at 10 a.m. The Lady Lions and Tahlequah play at 1 p.m. No. 20 Eisenhower makes it way back to Moore for the second time in two weeks and will face Muskogee at 4 p.m. Top-seed Southmoore (8-4), which has lost four straight, takes on Ponca City at 7 p.m.

The girls championship game is at 7 p.m. Saturday. The boys will follow at 8:30 p.m.

“The more we are in these competitive situations the more we will learn and react better under pressure,” Moore girls coach Rhonda Fields said. “These are also the things I expect our team to work toward in this week’s John Nobles Tournament. I want to see fundamental improvement and mental development. These things usually require many repetitions and much experience.”
