“This senior group all swam really well today,” coach Kent Nicholson said. “They did a great job all day.”
On the girls’ side Maddie Sarantakos, who won the 100-yard butterfly and finished second in the 200 freestyle, led Norman North to a third-place finish.
“I won’t lie, I was nervous going in,” the freshman said. “There were so many great swimmers I was a little scared. I didn’t even look at the clock when I was done. I was watching Kent, and when I saw him jumping and screaming I knew.”
The Norman High girls finished outside the top 10 but drew praise from Nicholson, who credited all the swimmers in the program for the success they enjoyed on Saturday.
“It’s all one program for both schools, and these kids all work together to make it happen,” he said. “It’s satisfying for me for us to win a title, but there’s so many people in the program who make it happen. I’m proud of the group effort.”
