NORMAN — All-Conference basketball honors have been released, and several Transcript-area teams have players who made the cut in the Mid-State Conference.
On the boys’s side, Westmoore’s Tripp Fuller and Moore’s Dorian Gigger both earned first-team honors. Norman North freshman Marcus Dickinson was named to the second team, and Norman High senior Sam Blodgett earned third-team honors. Westmoore had another pair of players make it, with Trey Ayala being named to the second team while Dillion Thompson made third-team. Moore’s Maurice Davenport also earned third-team honors.
On the girls’ side, North pulled in several honors after a state-tournament run. Junior Bri Kuestersteffen was named the offensive player of the year and made the first team, while Haley Woodard and Julian Mougell were both named to the third team. In addition, coach Jeff Blough was named coach of the year.
NHS’ Taylor Ely and Bethany Cox both earned second-team honors, and Cox was also named to the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association all-state team.
Southmoore’s Kayla Tucker and Serithia Hawkins also made the first team, and Westmoore’s Sydney Chastain was named to the second team. Moore’s Amanda Patterson and Southmoore’s Kyra Gilbert made the third team, and NHS’ Albany Anderson, Southmoore’s Kyeria Hanna and Westmoore’s Ashley Gomez were all named Honorable Mention.
Top of the lineup leading North: A strong start this week at the Aggie Classic in Pensacola, Fla., for Norman North, including a win that coach Brian Aylor called “one of the most impressive in program history,” has come in part because of a talented lineup from top to bottom. But the Timberwolves are especially benefiting from an overperforming trio at the top of the order.
Lukes Jones, Daniel Herron and DJ Gasso have all impressed Aylor with the consistency this week, and the three have set the tone for North offensively. In Tuesday’s game against Greenwood, Ark., each of the three scored two runs each for the Timberwolves.
