NORMAN — Oklahoma third baseman Sheldon Neuse was named to the Team USA Collegiate National Team on Monday.
Neuse, who was the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year this past season, is among 28 players selected for the team. The roster will be cut down to 24 before the team hits the road to play games in North Carolina and South Carolina then the Netherlands and Cuba.
The OU sophomore-to-be was the only Big 12 Conference player selected for the squad and the first OU player picked for the squad since Brian Shackleford in 1996. Neuse hit .304 with a team-high seven home runs and 47 RBI to go with 17 doubles and seven triples. On the mound, Neuse made nine appearances with one save, a 1-0 record, 2.25 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 12 innings.
Prior to his selection to the Team USA squad, Neuse was playing summer ball in the California Collegiate League.
