Stark gets recommendation for SaberCats’ head coach

NORMAN — It didn’t take long for Southmoore to find its man. Less than three weeks after Jeff Brickman stepped down as the school’s head football coach, the Moore Board of Education search committee will recommend Southmoore assistant coach Jeremy Stark take over the position.

Stark has been the defensive coordinator since 2012 after serving for two seasons on staff as a defensive assistant and special teams coordinator. He’s been coaching for 12 years.

The school board will hold a special board meeting Monday that will include voting on Stark becoming the head coach or not.

If approved, Stark will become the program’s third head coach since its 2008 inception.

Also on the school board’s agenda is voting on Brian Fitzgerald to take over as district athletics director. If approved, he will replace Carl Franks, who was moved to another position within the district. Mike Fadum is also on tap to be voted on to become the Southmoore boys soccer coach.

Off and running: Paul Hix is off to a fast start at Moore High. Two weeks on the job, the new Lions football coach hasn’t wasted any time in implementing his style and up-tempo energy into the program.

“The transition has been good,” Hix said. “The kids have been really responsive. That’s usually the case when you come in and you try to introduce some new things, some new ideas. We’re still kind of in that honeymoon phase where everything is fresh and people are trying to impress everybody. As long as we can keep that momentum and energy, we’re going to be in good shape.”

The honeymoon may have ended Monday with the start of the team’s Summer Pride program. The players who showed up were on the field running in the early afternoon sun. For the skill players that meant almost 1,600 yards worth of sprints.
