Moore school board approves Stark

MOORE — For the second time in the school’s history, Southmoore didn’t have to look far to find a new football coach. The Moore Board of Education approved the hiring of Jeremy Stark to take over the program Monday during a special board meeting at Moore High.

“It’s awesome,” Stark said. “It’s a great place to be stepping into. Very excited about. Something I’ve looked forward to and dreamed about, being a head coach. I couldn’t ask for a better situation to be stepping into.”

Stark had been the defensive coordinator since 2012 after serving for two seasons on staff as a defensive assistant and special teams coordinator.

Before coming to Southmoore, Stark had coaching stints at Putnam City North and in Edmond.

But it has been his years at Southmoore under coaches Chris Jensen and Jeff Brickman that Stark said has prepared him for this new role.

“We have great kids,” Stark said. “They work hard and are committed. Coach Jensen and coach Brickman had great coaching staffs. So, the guys we have on staff are great coaches, hard workers. It’s a great position to be stepping into.”

Stark is replacing Jensen, who stepped down earlier this month to accept a position at Oklahoma Baptist.

In his two years as Southmoore’s skipper, the ’Cats racked up a 13-7 record.

Before taking over as head coach in 2012, Brickman was the team’s offensive coordinator for four years under Jensen, who is now the head coach at Oklahoma Baptist University.

Even though Stark is following behind Jensen and Brickman, he makes it clear he is his own coach and will do things a little differently.

“It will be similar to what it has been in the past,” Stark said. “But it will have a little bit of a different fingerprint on it because I’m not coach Jensen and I’m not coach Brickman, so I can’t do things the way they always did. I’ll add my own flair to it as they come.”
