Four Sooners named to preseason All-Big 12 team

NORMAN — The Big 12 Conference announced its preseason All-Big 12 football team Wednesday morning. Four Oklahoma players were named to the unit.

On the offense, right tackle Daryl Williams and kicker Michael Hunnicutt were first-team selections.

Defensively, linebacker Eric Striker and cornerback Zack Sanchez were the selections.

The team was selected by media members who cover the league.

Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty was tabbed as the league’s offensive player of the year. The senior threw for more than 4,200 yards and 32 touchdowns last season.

TCU defensive end Devonte Fields was tabbed the defensive player of the year. The junior is coming off a season in which he only played in three games due to a back injury.

Oklahoma State wide receiver Tyreek Hill was named the newcomer of the year. The transfer from Garden City (Kan.) Community College made 32 catches for 532 yards and six touchdowns last year. Hill also carried the ball 101 times for 659 yards and five scores.

The Big 12’s preseason poll will be released Thursday.
