NORMAN — Oklahoma will start the season as the overwhelming favorite to win the Big 12 Conference.
The league released its annual preseason media poll Thursday morning, and the Sooners, who went 12-2 last season, received 47 of 56 first-place votes.
If OU failed to win at least a share of the conference title, it would break a 14-year trend. It has won or shared the league title in every even-numbered year since 2000.
Baylor, which its first Big 12 conference title last season, received the other nine first-place votes and finished second in the poll.
The top five was rounded out by Kansas State, Texas and Oklahoma State.
Texas Tech and TCU followed by West Virginia, Iowa State and Kansas to filled out the poll.
