Cowboys making good use of new facility

(Continued)

NORMAN —

Though the indoor facility is centrally located to benefit football and baseball, Carmichael has no problem with its location when it comes to soccer — whose field is several blocks down the road on Hall of Fame Avenue.

The anticipation of practicing in the new $19 million building funded by donations is high for Carmichael and his Cowgirls.

While the team does not report until August, several of the players helped with the youth camp and got the chance to step inside.

“The athletes that were working our camp got in there and they were saying things like, ‘We can’t wait for the first day of storms so we can get into it and test it out,’” the Cowgirl soccer coach said. “So our girls are pretty excited about it.”

As for prospective Cowboys and Cowgirls, Carmichael said the facility will now be toward the top of the list when recruits come to Stillwater for campus visits.

“It’s definitely going to be on our required tour list for all the recruits because it’s pretty impressive when you walk into it for the first time,” Carmichael said. “It’s only going to help us when you bring athletes on campus, they’re going to know that they are working in some of the best facilities in the country and definitely adds a legitimacy to our program.”
