NORMAN — The Heartland Baseball Classic is only a few days away and Team Oklahoma’s roster came to light Wednesday.

Dominated by graduated seniors, the squad’s original roster — rosters have a way of occasionally being updated for such events — has 18 names on it, 13 belonging to players who just finished their senior year of high school.

The roster also includes a pair of Transcript area talents in Norman North’s Austin Crawford, who closed out his high school career helping the T-Wolves get to the Class 6A state championship game, and Southmoore’s Tre Edwards, an Arkansas signee who’s also playing for general manager Shannon Enfield’s Cleveland County Boomer Connie Mack team this summer.

There’s been a slight change to the format this year, with seven, rather than the typical eight, teams participating. Arizona, long a Sunbelt and Heartland Classic staple, was not able to send a team this time around. Arizona’s absence will leave all-star teams from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Ohio and Texas vying for the championship.

It also means, rather than having four days of games followed by one day of bracket play, that each team will play three days of games — a true round robin, with each team playing every other team once — followed by two days of bracket play to determine a champion.

Round robin play will take place at Norman High’s Tiger Stadum, Norman North’s Tull Lake Park and Southmoore High School’s diamond. Bracket play will take place at Norman North and Southmoore.

The event will kick off Monday night at Southmoore, where opening ceremonies begin at 6 p.m., followed by the Heartland Classic’s annual home run derby.
