NORMAN — Kelsey Stevens’ impact at Oklahoma continues to grow.
The sophomore transferred in this season and quickly established herself as the ace of the staff for the 12th-ranked Sooners, and she showed again why in a 3-0 win over North Texas on Wednesday.
Stevens took a no-hitter into the final inning Wednesday before allowing North Texas to secure a hit. In the end, it was a one-hit shutout victory for Stevens, who moved to 26-7 on the year with the win. She struck out six and walked just one batter in the win as OU moved to 36-10 and dropped North Texas to 28-16.
It was a scoreless game through four innings, until junior Georgia Casey launched a two-run home run in fifth inning to put the Sooners on the board. It was her ninth of the season and 25th of her career, and it proved to be the difference against North Texas. Senior Brittany Williams added another run on a solo shot in the sixth to provide the final margin.
The win was OU’s 25th in a row over North Texas, the most against another team without a loss in the program’s history. The Sooners will return to the field Saturday at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader against UAB.
