NORMAN — Unofficial visits can reap big rewards. Allen, Texas, linebacker Tay Evans used it to announce his commitment to Oklahoma on Tuesday.
Evans made the declaration on Twitter.
“Just committed to the University of Oklahoma,” he wrote.
Evans is the 11th commitment for the Sooners and the fifth from Texas. He’s also the first linebacker in the class. Evans, a 6-foot-3, 202-pound outside linebacker, reportedly received an offer from OU last month.
The Sooners had an inside track.
Evans is the son of former OU basketball player Bobby Joe Evans, who played for Kelvin Sampson’s teams from 1996-98.
Rivals.com rates Evans as a three-star prospect. All oral commitments are non-binding. Recruits cannot sign letters of intent until national signing day, Feb. 5, 2014.
