Donaghe wins discus title

YUKON — Boosted by a state championship from discus thrower Caleigh Donaghe, the Norman High girls find themselves in second place after Friday’s opening day of the Class 6A state track meet.

NHS trails Jenks by two points (25-23) thanks in large part to 10 points by Donaghe, who won the discus title with a throw of 128-09.

Tiger distance runner Hayley Redwine placed second in the 3200 meter run and joined the 4x800 relay team of Bethany Cox. Haley Gee and Camille Hemry with a fifth place finish. Redwine ran the 3200 meters in 11:15.91. The approximately 2-mile race was won by Mustang’s Emily Helms in 11:01.35.

Norman North’s Haley Woodard will run in a few finals today after qualifying first in the 200 meter dash (24.35), second in the 400 meter dash (59.20).

The NHS boys’ 4x800 relay team of Tommy Uglean, Andrew Meiller, Sean Corbly and Robert Baines scored with a fourth-place finish. Distance runner Mackenzie Wahpepah-Harris took fourth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:42.86. North’s Ben Barrett was right behind at 9:44.46.

Also scoring for the Tigers on Day One was discus thrower Cole Ridgway who scored fourth among 6A boys with a throw of 152-09.

Among qualifiers for the boys 100 meter dash were North’s Corbin Cleveland and NHS’ Imond Robinson.

Robinson will also run the 200 meter dash today along with North’s Redford Jones. The T-Wolves’ 4x100 relay team qualified first at 42.33.
