MANHATTAN, Kan. — Oklahoma managed to end the regular season on a positive note Sunday. Kolbey Carpenter went 2 for 4 and drove in three runs to help power the Sooners to a 7-3 victory over Kansas State at Tointon Stadium.
OU (25-19, 13-11 Big 12) will open Big 12 tournament against fifth-seeded Baylor (27-25, 12-11) at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
The Sooners slugged their way out of a three-game losing streak and Carpenter was the catalyst. He clubbed a two-run double in the second inning and clubbed a solo home run — Carpenter’s second of the season — in the fourth inning to give OU a 4-1 lead.
OU only had seven hits Sunday, but they were timely.
Anthony Hermelyn, Hector Lorenzana, Matt Oberste and Colt Bickerstaff all drove in runs.
Jake Fisher (2-2) picked up the win. The left-hander gave up nine hits, but just two runs over seven innings. The Wildcats, who secured the Big 12 regular-season title with Friday’s 6-5 victory over the Sooners, had 14 hits on the afternoon.
However, OU turned two double plays and the Wildcats stranded 13 base runners.
Jake Dollar (2-3) took the loss. He only gave up one hit over 11⁄3 innings.
The field and game times for the Big 12 tournament is now set.
The top-seeded Wildcats will face eighth-seeded Texas Tech (25-28, 9-15) at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Those four teams will play a double-elimination tournament with the winner advancing to Sunday’s championship.
