NORMAN — When Oklahoma women’s basketball coach Sherri Coale brings her Team USA squad to the World University Games, set to begin July 8 in Kazan, Russia, she will have one of her own in tow.
The final roster for the team was announced this week and Sooner guard and All-Big 12 selection Aaryn Ellenberg was one of a dozen players to make the final cut.
Ellenberg averaged 18.7 points over last season, making 41.4 percent (115 of 278) from beyond the 3-point arc and helping to lead the Sooners back to the Sweet 16.
She was one of three players from the Big 12 Conference invited to a three-day trials camp. Also making the team was Baylor guard Odyssey Sims. Iowa State’s Hallie Christofferson was not named to the final roster.
The roster includes three who played in the national title game: Louisville’s Shoni Schimmel and Connecticut’s Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Bria Hartley.
“Fun. That’s the word that comes to my mind first. I think they will be a really interesting bunch to coach,” Coale said. “They can do a lot of different things.”
