Sooners sweep games in Hawaii

HONOLULU — The 13th ranked Oklahoma women played one close game at the Rainbow Wahine Classic, a narrow victory over an until-then unbeaten Arkansas squad.

The rest of their stay was easy.

Sunday’s 74-49 victory over host Hawaii made it two straight lopsided wins for the Sooners, the first a 39-point win Saturday over Oregon.

The Sooners led just 28-25 at the half, but exploded on a 16-0 second-half run to put the game away.

Morgan Hook led the Sooners with 16 points. Freshman Maddie Manning, drawing the start, and Aaryn Ellenberg both added 12 points.

Whitney Hand added 10 and a team-high six rebounds.

Hawaii was led by Kamilah Martin’s 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Sooners continued to shoot well in the early season, hitting 47.3 percent (26 of 55) from the field and 42.1 percent (8 of 19) from beyond the 3-point arc. OU pulled off those numbers by making 65.4 percent of its second-half shots.

Hawaii started cold and stayed cold, hitting just 30.6 percent (15 of 49) of its shots.

The Sooners moved to 5-1. Hawaii fell to 2-5. OU has now played 16 games in program history in Honolulu and is 10-6 in those games.

Ellenberg and Morgan Hook were both named to the All-Tournament team.
