Tigers, Timberwolves finally take their rivalry to the mat

NORMAN — Norman High may be looking forward to a Tuesday meet with Midwest City that will decide whether the Tigers advance to Dual State, but first they will meet the Timberwolves for a Crosstown Clash dual that’s been a month in the making.

NHS and Norman North were supposed to meet for the dual last month but were snowed out. Instead, they’ll meet tonight to decide bragging rights. Weigh-ins are at 4:30, with the JV wrestling at 7 p.m. and the varsity at 7:15 p.m.

After the Clash, the Tigers will travel to Midwest City on Tuesday for a dual that would send NHS to Dual State if the Tigers win. They defeated Edmond Santa Fe and Moore in tight matches on Tuesday.

Swim teams to compete at Mid-State meet: Both Norman High and Norman North’s swim teams will have their first test in advance of the state meet today when they compete at the Mid-State meet.

The meet starts at 1:30 p.m. at Oklahoma City Community College, and is the precursor to the regional meet on Feb. 7-8 that will decide which swimmers advance to the state meet on Feb. 21.

Reed signs with Pomona College: Norman High senior Paul Reed, one of the Tigers’ leading pitchers, will continue his career next season at Pomona College.

Reed’s signing will be honored at a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 29 in the NHS library.

T-Wolves nursing injuries: Norman North is in the midst of one of its worst stretches of the season, though it doesn’t feel that way. The Timberwolves have suffered a series of narrow losses while losing four of five games.

The biggest problem North has faced in that stretch is a rash of injuries. Guards Malcolm Carter and Najji Brown missed last week’s game against Midwest City, and Brown will be out again this weekend.
