NORMAN — Despite being down three regular players, the Norman North girls still found a way to come out with a win in the first round of Thursday’s tournament in Miami, a 51-39 victory over Coweta.
Julian Mougell and Bri Kuestersteffen, the team’s leading scorer, have been out for nearly a week after suffering a severely sprained ankle and a concussion, respectively. The most recent addition to that list is defensive specialist Sam Landreth, who was unable to play after taking an elbow to the head late in Tuesday’s loss to Edmond Memorial.
Still, the sixth-ranked Timberwolves (8-3) were able to get enough production from the rest of the rotation to take care of Coweta (5-6). The victory earns the Timberwolves a spot in tonight’s 7:30 p.m. semifinal against Springfield, Mo.
Norman North boys 61, Choctaw 40: Norman North is on to the semifinals of the Shawnee tournament after downing Choctaw 61-40 in the opening round on Thursday.
The T-Wolves (9-5) broke a streak in which they had lost three out of four by coasting against Choctaw (2-11) and earned a spot in tonight's semifinal at 5:30 p.m.
