Former Oklahoma defensive ends coach/special teams coordinator Chris Wilson was officially introduced as Mississippi State's co-defensive coordinator Saturday.
Wilson's departure creates the first opening in OU coach Bob Stoops' staff since Kevin Sumlin left to become Houston's head coach following the 2007 season.
In a statement released Saturday, Stoops said he wished Wilson the best.
"This is a good opportunity for Chris and we appreciate everything he did for our program," he said.
Wilson, a former OU linebacker, joined Stoops' staff prior to the 2005 season.
Stoops said he doesn't know what direction he'll take in replacing Wilson's former position or when a coach will be hired.
The Sooners are in the height of recruiting season. The current coaching staff hosted a number of recruits at today's OU-Missouri basketball game at Lloyd Noble Center.
National Signing Day is Feb. 3.
Stoops could simply hire another defensive ends coach or he could adjust the staff depending on who he decides to hire.
Current secondary coach Bobby Jack Wright was OU's defensive ends coach from 1999-2004.
"There are a number of different avenues I can take and I will take all of them into consideration," he said.
