SAN ANTONIO — Last time out, the Oklahoma women were the only team under par on their home course, winning the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic by an amazing 29 strokes.

Since, the Sooners have watched their ranking jump from No. 14 to a program-best No. 3.

Sunday, in the first-round of the Alamo Invitational at Briggs Ranch Golf Course, they played up to it with a program record round of nine-under par for 279.

After 18 holes, the Sooners lead the 15-team field by seven strokes. SMU is the nearest chaser at 286. Tulane sits at 287, Texas A&M at 289 and host Texas-San Antonio is in fifth place at 290.

“We played solid today,” OU coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. “It was fun watching the girls make some putts.”

The Sooners set the program mark even with a subpar 75 from reigning NCAA medalist Chirapat Jao-Javenil.

While that score was dropped, senior Taylor Schmidt and junior Kaitlyn Rohrback led with a pair of 4-under par 68s. Junior Emily Collins rebounded from a bogey-bogey start to shoot 70. Junior Anne-Catherine Tanguay shot 73.

The Sooners begin their second round at 9:50 this morning. The tourney concludes Tuesday.
