North boys win in overtime

NORMAN — Marcus Dickinson added another accolade to an already-impressive freshman debut with a dominant overtime performance on Friday. Dickinson scored the first six points in a 78-74 overtime win over Carl Albert, part of a 26-point performance.

Norman North built a second-half lead before Carl Albert came storming back. The Titans took a three-point lead with under a minute left and put North on the ropes. But Blake Knighton hit a three with 10 seconds left to tie the game and force the extra period.

“We played a lot better than we did before the break,” coach Butch Roberts said. “We had some turnovers late, but we found a way to get it done. Marcus was outstanding in the second half. He put us on his back and led the way.

The T-Wolves played in the late game, and will play at either 3 or 7 p.m. today.

NHS girls split:Norman High split a pair of games on Friday and as a result will face Ardmore for third place at 2:30 p.m. today in the Ardmore tournament.

The Tigers beat Putnam City West 56-40 in the first game of the day behind a monster performance from Taylor Ely. Ely scored 28 of her 34 points in the second half to lead the Tigers to the win.

“She really put us on her back and carried us,” coach Nichole Copeland said. “She did a good job playing off the ball and using backcuts and screens to get easy shots.”

In the second game, NHS faced off against Allen, Texas. Copeland praised her team for “playing their guts out,” but they fell 59-46.

“Lexi Seeburg and Albany Anderson played really well today,” she said. “They were really active on the floor and gave us some help on offense.”
