SPOKANE, Wash. — Anyway, Oklahoma soccer coach Matt Potter likes what he saw.

Sunday, the Sooners were at Gonzaga for their final preseason exhibition, where they allowed a goal advantage to turn into a 2-1 loss to the Bulldogs.

The loss was unfortunate, thought Potter, but the trip was fruitful.

“We have shown growth throughout the preseason, culminating in this trip to the northwest,” the Sooner coach said. “While the result didn’t go our way, the positives far outweigh the challenges. Going up a goal on the road is tough, especially against a talented Gonzaga team. The focus and discipline required to close out the game are the steps we need to take next.”

The Sooners’ lone goal was an own goal, coming 73:15 into the contest when a Gonzaga defender attempted to clear a cross played by Kathryn Watson, yet played it into the Bulldog net instead.

Gonzaga came back with a tally from Sarah Carter to tie the game with 8 minutes remaining and tacked on the winner almost 6 1/2 minutes later on a 25-yard free kick from Tori Lee, who had assisted Carter’s goal.

The Sooners were outshot 15-4. Keeper Stade Kassidie helped keep OU in the game by making five saves.

OU finished the preseason with a 0-1-1 exhibition mark, playing Idaho to a scoreless tie Friday.

The Sooners open up the regular season at Tennessee this coming Friday. Two days later, also in Knoxville, they’ll face Kennesaw State.
