NORMAN — Westmoore doesn’t have time to dwell on its regular season finale loss to Broken Arrow. It now has to hit the road and face Sand Springs in the first round of the Class 6A state playoffs.

“We just have to play a lot harder than last week,” senior Kieron Hardrick said. “It’s going to be a tough team and, we have to go all the way to the east side again. We have to bring our A-game this week.”

Sand Springs (6-4) and Westmoore (8-2) will kickoff at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. It’s the Sandites’ first home playoff game since 1997.

Sand Springs is coming off a 21-16 win last week against Enid.

The Sandites will have to slow down the duo of quarterback Cody Hale and receiver Jacob Sigmon. Runningback Tre Betts also figures to be a factor in the balanced offensive attack.

Despite only two defeats, the Jaguars have had their share of problems coming down the stretch. Injuries to the offensive line has slowed down the potent offense. Both the run game and passing attack have seen a drop in production since earlier in the season.

“They just have to keep working and trying to get better every day with their technique,” Westmoore coach Billy Langford said. “We still have a bunch of new kids up there, first-year starters that are still trying to learn and trying to improve and get better. We’ve gotten better from day one, and we’re still going to get better.”

But sophomore Deshawn Lookout said it’s not on one area of the team to get better. It’s the entire squad that needs to raise its level for the postseason.

“We just have to come together as a good family team, as one,” Lookout said. “We’ve been working on this week a lot, about coming together as a family.”

Westmoore’s side of the playoff bracket features Jenks and Lawton High, the only two undefeated teams in 6A. Yet, the Jags are still confident they can make some noise in the postseason.

“We just have to get really focused right now,” Hardrick said. “It’s a big time of the year for us. It’s time to get everything executed right, get the plays down. Know everything like the back of our hand.”
