OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The former leader of the Oklahoma Senate asked a federal judge Friday to sentence him to probation on a bribery conviction, arguing that his years of public service and devotion to the state and its people merit leniency.

Former Senate President Pro Tem Mike Morgan, D-Stillwater, made the request in a pre-sentence memorandum filed in U.S. District Court in Oklahoma City.

It was accompanied by more than 400 testimonial letters from three former governors, current and former lawmakers, tribal leaders and other elected officials as well as members of his family and citizens who support him.
