The 'American Idol baby' story The Norman Transcript Pastor Mark McKintosh of Shawnee's Evangelistic Center Church can boast a title not won by any American Idol constant.
He is the American Idol baby's grandfather. McKintosh's son-in-law, former Norman resident Phil Stacey of the U.S. Navy, auditioned in Memphis three months ago. Unfortunately, this was the same day Stacey's wife, Kendra, was giving birth to their second daughter, McKayla. McKintosh said his son-in-law nearly left his chance to audition because he had already missed the birth of his first daughter, Chloe, because of his involvement with the Navy. However, American Idol made accommodations to help with the situation. "They moved his audition up so he could catch the plane," McKintosh said. "Unfortunately, he missed it anyway." Stacey, who is also a Navy vocalist, will be part of the Idol broadcast 7 p.m. tonight on Oklahoma City's Fox 25, as the show features Memphis auditions. --Althea Peterson
