NORMAN — Norman resident Les Risser and Teresa Adwan, of Tulsa, have received 2011 Distinguished Service Awards from the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, a nonprofit organization that encourages academic excellence in public schools.

Adwan and Risser, both trustees of the foundation, were recognized for their compiling and editing a book commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence and paying tribute to its founder and chairman, David L. Boren.

The book, titled “A Man, A Vision, A Reality: The First 25 Years of the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence,” can be viewed and ordered on the foundation’s website at www.ofe.org. It features more than 200 pages of photos, memories and reflections from foundation leaders, volunteers and beneficiaries.

“Through their talent, dedication, hard work, long hours and love for the project, Teresa and Les created a beautiful book that tells the story of our foundation in a superb way,” immediate past president Dow Hughes said. “They captured the stories of so many of the people who have been a part of this organization and have made it what it is today.”

Risser is a former OU development director who joined the foundation board in 2004 and has served three times as chair of the foundation’s Academic Awards Banquet. Adwan is a retired Tulsa attorney and former president of the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence.
