NORMAN — To ensure that University of Oklahoma students have the tools to succeed in an increasingly global community, OU has established a new program: the OU Fellowship for Global Engagement. The fellowship is open to all incoming freshmen admitted to OU and will be coordinated by the College of International Studies.

Global Engagement Fellows will receive a $5,000 cash scholarship, which can be used during their undergraduate education for up to three international experiences, two short-term and one long-term, with their first study abroad experience taking place during the summer after their freshman year. Applications for the inaugural 2014-2015 fellowship class are due by April 15.

During their undergraduate careers, Global Engagement Fellows will not only study abroad but also will take part in meetings and events related to the new program; make a presentation on their international study experience as part of the campus’ new Global Engagement Day; participate in the OU Cousins program, which matches international or exchange students with American students for monthly programs and events; gain proficiency in a foreign language; participate in at least four international cultural programs or events each academic year; become an active member in at least one international organization; and maintain a 2.8 grade-point average.
