NORMAN — President’s Arts Week is an annual spring celebration of fine arts at the University of Oklahoma, with concerts, art exhibits and theater performances April 10-17 throughout the OU Arts District. The pinnacle event of the week is The President’s Concert.
Students of the Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts will perform a grand concert presentation of Haydn’s “The Seasons.” Two performances are open to the public at 8 p.m. Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Reynolds Performing Arts Center.
Honoring OU President Boren, Haydn’s “The Seasons” is a compilation of music, song and dance to Franz Joseph Haydn’s classical oratorio, under the direction of Dr. Richard Zielinski, artistic director and conductor, and Mary Margaret Holt, artistic director of the Oklahoma Festival Ballet.
The concert showcases the world premiere ballet, choreographed by Holt and Ilya Kozadayev, assistant professor of the School of Dance, and performed by the Oklahoma Festival Ballet, with special guest artist Brett Young, now under professional contract with the Texas Ballet Theatre.
“The Seasons” will be performed by the OU Symphony Orchestra and OU Combined Choirs with the vocal talents of School of Music soloists Donna Mitchell-Cox, soprano, Joel Burcham, tenor, and Mark Billy, bass-baritone.
Tickets for Haydn’s “The Seasons” may be purchased by phone at 325-4101 or in person at the OU Fine Arts Box Office, 500 W. Boyd St., Catlett Music Center. Reserved seating tickets are $20. Box office hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
