LAWTON — The University of Oklahoma’s newest dormitory will be named Headington Hall.

The OU Board of Regents approved the naming on Wednesday during its October regular meeting at Cameron University.

The $75 million student housing center being constructed at Lindsey Street and Jenkins Avenue is named after Tim Headington, a 1972 OU graduate who made the project’s lead gift of $10 million.

Headington Hall, scheduled to open in 2013, will house about 380 students in its 230,000 square feet and five floors. Forty-nine percent of residents will be student-athletes, and the remaining 51 percent will be students who aren’t university athletes.

The OU regents also:

· Heard from OU President David Boren that a scholarship campaign for the OU College of Medicine raised $4.1 million in its first seven months.

The college’s Second Century Campaign for Scholarships has raised nearly $902,000 in immediate gifts and pledges and $3.2 million in planned commitments since the campaign’s launch in March. The campaign’s name comes from the college, founded in 1911, starting its second century this year.

“Increased scholarship support is critical in order for OU to remain competitive in attracting top students and to keep the costs of medical school affordable,” Boren said.

· Awarded a $695,000 contract to Manhattan Construction Company to complete the first phase of planned improvements for L. Dale Mitchell Baseball Park.

The company will upgrade the stadium’s warning track, field turf and upper concourse canopy. Athletics director Joe Castiglione said the work will be completed before the start of baseball season.

· Authorized a purchase order of $307,190 to buy a new audio system for Paul F. Sharp Concert hall inside Catlett Music Center. Boren said a new system is needed because the current one is limited, which often requires the leasing of additional sound for some events.
