Paul Massad to be honored

NORMAN — Paul Massad, senior vice president for University Development and director of major gifts at the University of Oklahoma, will be honored with the Meritorious Service Award at the OU Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education’s annual Celebration of Education.

Massad has been a part of the recent growth of the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education, leading the capital campaign for the new building — including the idea for the Sandra O’Brien Bell Tower.

Other awards to be given that evening include the Young Educators award, which will go to Andraé McConnell, an English content specialist at the OU K20 Center for Educational and Community Renewal. The Outstanding Educator award will go to Jun Kim, an assistant principal at Southmoore High School, and the Career Achievement award will go to Sue Madole, who recently retired after 36 years with Norman Public Schools.

Susan Bumgarner, a pre-K teacher at Wilson Arts Integration Elementary School in Oklahoma City, will be inducted into the College of Education’s Alumni Hall of Fame.

Bumgarner was an invited guest of Michelle Obama to sit in the First Lady’s Box at the 2013 State of the Union address.

John Folks, former superintendent of the Northside Independent School District in Texas, will be honored with the Award of Distinction.

Folks recently retired after serving for 10 years as the superintendent of the Northside Independent School District.

Located in San Antonio, Folks served 71 elementary schools, 18 middle schools and 15 high schools, as well as nine special campuses.

Folks earned his Bachelor of Science with a concentration in mathematics and science, his master’s degree with a concentration in secondary school and general education administration and his doctorate in educational administration from OU’s Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education.

The Celebration of Education is set for 6:30 p.m. April 26 in the Molly Shi Boren Ballroom of Oklahoma Memorial Union, 900 Asp Ave.
