NORMAN — Cleveland Area Rapid Transit will host its first Stuff the Bus event from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 4, to benefit Operation Homefront Oklahoma.

Buses will be staged at both Norman Walmart locations to accept donations for military families from all branches of the service.

Operation Homefront Oklahoma, based in Lawton, is a non-profit group providing emergency financial and other assistance to Oklahoma military families across the state.

“Operation Homefront also mobilizes to assist wounded warriors upon their return home,” said Doug Myers, director of the University of Oklahoma Parking and Transportation Services, which operates CART.

“Many military veterans utilize the CART service, and we felt joining this statewide effort was a way we could say thank you for your service, and for using public transit,” Myers said.

Stuff the Bus is an initiative of Oklahoma Transit Association (OTA). CART will join with several other transit systems across the state in supporting Operation Homefront Oklahoma. OTA’s membership is composed of public and tribal transit systems.

OTA is coordinating Stuff the Bus events through Oct. 17 when all items will be delivered to the ASA Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City for final sorting and organizing.

The following items will be accepted Thursday at both Norman Walmart locations, 601 12th Avenue NE and at 333 N. Interstate Drive:

· Gift cards for gas or groceries.

· New sporting goods like bats, gloves, footballs, soccer balls, etc.

· New toy trucks, bears or dolls.

· Winter hats, coats, mittens or scarves.

· Diapers in all sizes.

· Coloring books and supplies.

· Books for all ages.
