NORMAN — Norman police identified drivers and passengers involved in two separate accidents with injuries this week.
A four-vehicle wreck Sunday afternoon on State Highway 9 injured seven people. The driver of a Dodge Ram pickup, Jason Willis, 29, of Norman, and the driver of a Pontiac Grand Prix, Sandra Cunha, 62, of Tecumseh, remain in critical condition at the OU Medical Center.
Willis’ only passenger, Matthew Smith, 21, of Norman, also remains at the OU Medical Center in serious condition.
Police responded to the collision around 3:34 p.m. Sunday in the 8900 block of East Highway 9. The vehicles involved included the Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, which traveled left of center, colliding with the Pontiac Grand Prix and a Suzuki Grand Villa minivan.
An eastbound Chevrolet 1500 pickup also was significantly damaged during the collision by debris from the other vehicles.
Police said it appeared weather and road conditions were not a contributing factor and the likely cause was impaired driving. Possible criminal charges related to the collision are pending upon further investigation.
Others injured during the collision included driver and passengers of the minivan, including Lacey Felton, 30, Dylan Rudloff, 10, Derek Rudloff, 8, and Emma Rudloff, 3, all of Newalla. All of the passengers in the minivan were transported to Norman Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries and were later released.
Neither occupant of the Chevy pickup reported injuries related to the collision.
Highway 9 was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the collision was investigated and the involved vehicles were removed.
Along with the Norman Police Department, the Norman Fire Department, EMSStat, Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office and Oklahoma Department of Transportation responded to the scene.
The collision remains under investigation by the Norman and OU police Collision Investigation Reconstruction Team.
In other news, following a wreck early Wednesday on Sooner Road, three people were transported to the hospital. At this time Kaylie Graham, 18, of Choctaw, remains at the OU Medical Center in stable condition. Chikina Miller, 25, and Spenser Cole, 26, both of Norman were treated at Norman Regional Hospital and released.
Police responded to a reported injury collision around 6:30 a.m. in the 5300 block of 12th Avenue Northeast involving three vehicles.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2012 Honda Civic driven by Graham was traveling southbound on 12th Avenue Northeast when her vehicle traveled into northbound lanes.
While in the northbound lanes, Graham’s vehicle made contact with the side of a 2013 Nissan Sentra driven by Miller before traveling head on into a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Cole.
Sooner Road was closed for approximately four hours while the collision was investigated and the involved vehicles were removed. The collision remains under investigation by the Norman and OU police CIRT.
