NORMAN — A Norman man was charged with first-degree murder Tuesday in Cleveland County District Court after allegedly shooting his neighbor Saturday night.
Ethan Johnson Spruill, 22, was apprehended by Norman police after they responded to a disturbance between two neighbors at 1820 Cherry Stone Street around 10:36 p.m. Saturday.
According to the affidavit filed with the charge, Spruill became upset when his neighbor’s wife asked him to keep the noise level down in his apartment.
Spruill verbally assaulted her as she went back to her own apartment downstairs.
He then followed her and began banging on the door and screaming at her to open the door. Moments later, her husband opened the door and Spruill entered the apartment, the affidavit said.
The two men briefly struggled on the floor, during which time Spruill took a handgun from his waistband and shot the neighbor, who was identified as Aaron Donelle McCray Jr., 22.
Spruill shot McCray several times in the chest, the affidavit said. McCray was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
At the police department, Spruill made numerous spontaneous utterances, admitting that he shot the victim and had been drinking alcohol before the incident, the affidavit said.
