NORMAN — Students from the Norman North High School Ladies of Chorale have been selected to perform March 20 in Little Rock, Ark., for the Southwest Regional Convention of the American Choral Directors Association.
NNHS Choir Director Tony Gonzalez said the choir is one of 12 auditioned groups performing during the four-day conference. The 44 Norman students will be the only choir from Oklahoma.
“They will perform for probably the most elite erudite audience that they’ve ever performed for in their lives,” Gonzalez said. “It’s 600 choir directors from several states who really, really appreciate the effort that goes into preparation, study and performance of it, as well. And for the students to participate in the process of learning it and experiencing it is a life-long memory for them.”
Gonzalez said students also will participate in workshops during the convention, learning about a variety of choral issues.
The 25-minute program includes a variety of classical music from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries in a variety of languages, including French, German and English, Gonzalez said.
The same program will be performed during Vox Femina, a joint concert with the University of Oklahoma Women’s Chorus, at 6 p.m. Sunday at the OU Sharp Concert Hall, 500 W. Boyd St.
The event is free and open to the public.
