Making Inn roads for more

NORMAN — Early this week, the Norman City Council approved the final site development plan and final plat for a new Residence Inn that will be located in the University North Park area.

The four-story lodging establishment is planned to have 100 units on a 2.88-acre site when complete.

Though the plans for Norman’s newest hotel is merely on paper now, the construction continues on the Holiday Inn Express, located directly south of the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center. The 115-room property is projected to open in July.

Having a third property within walking distance of one another is a tremendous benefit for all three hotels because Norman could host even larger conferences, conventions, workshops and sporting events.

Once construction vehicles began moving dirt on the Holiday Inn Express last summer, the Norman Convention and Visitors Bureau staff started promoting that there would be an overflow property coming to Norman. Now with a third property on the horizon, our staff has even more facilities and options to promote to meeting professionals, and other event planners.

Stefanie Brickman, CTA, is interim executive director of the Norman Convention and Visitors Bureau. The NCVB exists to promote the city, to attract overnight meeting, convention, sport and tourism business to the community and to enhance and contribute to the overall identity and economic wellbeing of the city.
