After Prom fundraisers gearing up

NORMAN — “We are a small but mighty group,” said Cassie Huddleston, spokeswoman for the Noble After Prom group. She and coordinator Sherri Stuart, along with a handful of junior and senior parents, are spearheading several fundraising efforts to provide a safe and fun place for Noble students to go after prom.

“They moved prom up a whole month,” Huddleston said. “The ice storms have cut our fundraising time.”

So, the group is in full swing raising funds to provide a safe place for students after prom that’s chock full of food, activities and “tons of door prizes,” Huddleston said.

So far, they’ve been selling therapeutic corn bags at Bears sporting events, they’ve raffled off fleece blankets and they’re hosting a Mud Run in March. She said businesses that donate will have their names advertised on the back of Mud Run T-shirts as well as on After Prom T-shirts.

Currently, the group is selling raffle tickets for a spirit-themed quilt, which Huddleston made from Noble athletic club T-shirts.

Tickets are priced at $2 each or six for $10 and can be purchased from Stuart by calling her at 659-5244. The drawing will be the first week in March. There also will be a faculty basketball game against the Noble EMTs. Details are pending.

“I’m hoping this will bring some money,” Huddleston said.

Therapeutic corn bags made by Carolyn Johnson, mom of a Noble senior, are still available in three sizes: small for $5, medium for $8 and large for $15.

Huddleston said this year’s after party will continue the prom theme of “The Great Gatsby.”

“I think it not only gives them (students) a safe place to go, it lets them visit with others they might not normally get to visit with outside sports and club meetings,” Huddleston said. “As a parent, I feel good about my kids having a safe place to go without being out on the roads.”
