Economic Summit to feature Secretary of Commerce

NORMAN — The Norman Economic Development Coalition will host its 2014 Economic Summit Thursday at the Embassy Suites in Norman featuring keynote speaker Secretary of Commerce Larry Parman. In addition to Parman, several local leaders will speak at the Economic Summit.

Registration for the Summit will remain open through Tuesday.

Oklahoma, under the leadership of Gov. Mary Fallin, has committed to pursue an aggressive agenda to promote job growth. When Fallin appointed Parman as Secretary of Commerce and executive director of the Oklahoma Department of Commerce last fall, he vowed to use “all the tools available to the Department of Commerce to help attract and retain businesses and create more opportunities for our citizens.”

Thursday he will speak on the role of the ODOC and will outline his vision for economic development in the state.

Parman oversees the day-to-day operations at ODOC and acts as a liaison to the governor. He also serves as a policy advisor to Fallin.

Local speakers at the summit include Robin Wiens, chair of Norman Regional Hospital Authority, Dr. Joe Siano, superintendent of Norman Public Schools, Jane Bowen, superintendent of Moore Norman Technology Center, Daniel Pullin, vice president for Strategic Planning and Economic Development of the University of Oklahoma, City Manager Steve Lewis, and NEDC Executive Director Don Wood.

Presentations by these community leaders will run from 9 until 10 a.m. and will be followed by a brief question and answer period. Intervals for networking will be interspersed throughout the day.

Barry Murphy from the State of the OKC Metro Office Market and Stuart Graham from the State of the OKC Metro Retail Market will speak between 10:30 and 11 a.m., also followed by a short Q&A.

Parman will speak at 11:15 a.m.

Parman’s official biography details his extensive business and civic background. Since 1984, he has served as the CEO of Parman & Easterday, an Oklahoma City estate planning, elder law, and business planning firm that serves clients throughout the Midwest. He also has been a partner in Notch It Up Strategies LLC, a firm that offers marketing and executive development programs to professionals, business owners, and C-level executives.
