Reporter receives memorial award

NORMAN — During Thursday’s 45th annual Trooper of the Year and Administrative Professional of the Year awards luncheon, Norman Transcript staff writer Jessica Bruha accepted the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety Jerry Marx Memorial Media Award in recognition of traffic safety promotion throughout 2013.

Bruha was nominated for the award by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Public Relations Officer Lori Swanson, based on an article she wrote about a road rage incident that occurred in September involving Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Joe Kimmons and Game Warden Chad Strang. Swanson also nominated Bruha for establishing a good working relationship with OHP.

In October, District Attorney Greg Mashburn announced that Kimmons was cleared after shooting a juvenile Sept. 22 following the road rage incident along Interstate 35 in Norman.
