Deskin to address luncheon group

NORMAN — Freda Deskin, candidate for state superintendent of public instruction, will discuss her campaign at the Tyner Cornbread and Beans luncheon Friday at Catering Creations, 3750 W. Main St.

A 42-year veteran in education, Deskin graduated from Lexington High School, the University of Central Oklahoma and the University of Oklahoma, where she was a National Collegiate All-American.

She was a national semi-finalist in NASA’s Teacher-in-Space program. She is a member of the Oklahoma Educators Hall of Fame, a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Oklahoma’s Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education, the Marita Hynes Women in Sports Award, Women in Aerospace Hall of Fame and many other honors and recognitions.

The luncheon is sponsored by the Cleveland County Democratic Party.

The luncheon begins at 11:15 a.m., with the speaker beginning about noon. Guests can select lunch from Catering Creations’ full-course buffet. The meeting is open to the public.
