Helping families for the holidays

NORMAN — The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with Wal-Mart, Center for Children and Families Inc. and Cedar Country, Little Axe and Slaughterville fire departments to help five families this holiday season.

Walmart stores in Moore and Norman donated money toward gift cards. Each family will receive a gift card to purchase gifts. CCFI selected families for the event.

Firefighters and deputies will help families shop Saturday at Wal-Mart, 601 12th Ave. NE in Norman. The families, firefighters and deputies will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at CCFI in Norman and convoy to Walmart.

Santa Claus might make an appearance and help with shopping.

Sheriff Joe Lester said he and his deputies look forward to spreading a little Christmas cheer to these families during the holiday season.

“I am proud my deputies recognized a need to help less fortunate families in Cleveland County,” Lester said. “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the Christmas holiday than to help these families provide food and gifts for their loved ones.”
